Cypress School of the Arts is a unique school within the Hesperia Unified School District. It is a kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school that is the district’s first of three parent choice schools with Cypress opening in the 2008-2009 school year. As a parent choice school, families have the option to bring their children to Cypress rather than a school that is “within a specified boundary”. In order for students to be successful at Cypress, it is essential that families, students, teachers and administrators work together. All stakeholders need to be committed to the educational processes at our school. We encourage our Cyclone Families to help out as much as possible. Volunteer forms are available in the office and for safety reasons any person wishing to work with students or chaperone on field trips are required to submit a completed form for district approval.

In addition to the core academic programs offered throughout the district, students in first through sixth grade partake in an “Art Block” that could include drawing, music, painting, and art history through Meet the Masters. For our fourth through sixth grade students, they have the opportunity to participate in band. Cypress offers GATE, RSP and Speech for special education students requiring these types of services. Kindergarten students at Cypress enjoy an optional extended learning period daily, providing more minutes in the day to prepare the students for first grade and beyond.

During various times of the school year, students can participate in a wide range of clubs on campus after school. Some of the clubs are grade specific so more information can be found in our newsletter or by contacting the school directly.

Examples of clubs we have offered in the past:

  • Technology Club
  • Chess Club
  • Gardening Club
  • International Dance Club
  • Drama Club
  • Team Green (Green Schools, Focusing on Energy Efficiency)
  • 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Basketball
  • FLAIR (After-School Reading Intervention)
  • Clue-Me-In Team
  • Study Island Club for 2nd Graders
  • Young Authors
  • Science Fair
  • Festival of the Arts

At Cypress, we hold strong educational values and have developed a set of core learning expectations we follow that we refer to as ESLR’s or Expected School-Wide Learning Results. These ESLR’s are as follows:

Students Will…

  1. Achieve Academically
  2. Be Productive Citizens
  3. Be Technologically Literate
  4. Communicate Effectively
  5. Develop Artistic Potential
